Analysis of Moldflow results

1.Fill time result

The results show that the position of the material flow front is in a certain time interval when the cavity is filled. Each color contour represents the part of the product being filled at this time. 

At the beginning of the shot, the result is dark blue, and the last place full is red. If the product shoots short, the unfilled area has no color.

3.Wavefront temperature

The wave front temperature shows the temperature at the center of the plastic section when the flow front reaches the specified point. One of the results of the fill analysis is shown below.

The temperature drop at the flow front during the filling phase should not exceed 2 to 5 degrees. A large temperature change indicates that the injection time is too long, or that stagnant flow occurs in these areas. If the wave front temperature is too low in the thin-walled area of the product, the stagnant flow may lead to short shot. If the wave front temperature rises several degrees in some areas, material cracking and appearance defects may occur.

Volume shear rate is used to express the speed of interaction of each layer of plastic in the flow. If the process is too fast, the molecular chain of plastic will be destroyed and the material will be cracked.

The results of volume shear rate can not exceed the limit value of material shear rate given in the material library. If the limit value is exceeded, the material is likely to crack.

5.Pressure results at the rubber inlet

The pressure spike usually indicates the filling imbalance. It is very useful to check the existence of the pressure spike by the pressure result at the rubber inlet. This unbalanced flow may occur inside the product or between multiple products. If it is inside, it can usually be fixed by changing the gate position, sometimes only a small change is needed.

6.Time result to ejection temperature

Ideally, the solidification of the product should be as uniform and rapid as possible. Some areas that take longer to solidify may indicate hot spots.


Observe the difference between the solidification time of most areas of the product and the final solidification time. If there is a big difference, it is necessary to consider strengthening the cooling in the final solidification area or re improving the product.

7.Accumulated wind (aeration)

The result of accumulated wind is indicated by a continuous thin line or isoline (in 3D analysis) where accumulated wind is likely to occur. Between the front of two and more strands of material flow, or the air at the filling end is compressed to form a bubble, thus preventing the filling of plastic melt adhesive. In a typical case, the result will be a small pit or a corner mark on the product surface. In extreme cases, compression will cause the bubble temperature to rise to a certain extent and cause the plastic to decompose or burn.

8.average velocity

The average velocity results can be used to determine areas with high flow rates. High velocity values in some special areas of the mold may indicate a high flow rate, which means that filling problems such as over holding or burring may occur. This also means that the flow of the polymer is unbalanced. Some areas have faster flow velocity, while others have slower flow velocity.
